Believe it or not, it is nearly summer! And this is the season that Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership is encouraging everyone to take note of the wildlife around them and if possible record what they see. On Wednesday 29th May at 6.30pm, Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership will host a Bumblebee workshop. Bumblebees like butterflies are suffering due to many factors including our continual poor summers. In order to help experts examine this problem the public are encouraged to get involved by recording what they see and reporting this to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

As Community Relations Week approaches, Derry City Council Community Relations Officers have announced details of a number of free training courses covering topics such as Prejudice and Homophobia Training, Equality and Good Relations Training and Traveller Awareness.

The city is preparing to host BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend on 24-26 May when it will welcome up to 40,000 music lovers to Ebrington for what promises to be the biggest party of the summer, attracting the biggest names in UK and worldwide music such as Bruno Mars, Biffo Clyro and Calvin Harris.

Sporting events aimed at encouraging good relations among school children and young people are a key part of this year’s programme of events organised by Derry City Council for Community Relations Week (20th-25th May 2013).

Derry City Council and the Bay Road Park Steering Group, will host a photography and painting exhibition at Bay Road Park Local Nature Reserve, on Saturday 25th May 12:00 to 14:00.

Mayor Councillor Kevin Campbell has welcomed the announcement that the city is set to benefit from some 650 high quality jobs earmarked for Belfast, Derry and Strabane.

City of Derry Airport (CoDA) announced the grand opening of its newly refurbished aviation facilities on May 10th, 2013. The Mayor, Councillor Kevin Campbell officially opened the centre with over 45 external stakeholders joining the celebration ceremony.
