Festive season kicks off with Guildhall Craft Fair

Derry City Council’s Waste Management team have advised that refuse collection lorries are operating as normal this morning however have stated that they are currently experiencing some difficulties in reaching smaller untreated streets and, in particular, those with steep inclines.  Council have advised that they will return later in the day to affected areas to attempt collection again. They have asked members of the public living in these areas to, where possible, leave their bins at the top of their streets so that their bins can be collected.

World famous percussionist comes to Derry

World famous solo percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie will be performing at The Venue 2013, Derry~Londonderry on 14 May as part of the City of Culture celebrations. Dame Glennie, who lost her hearing when she was 12, is the star attraction in a line-up of performers who have a hearing or sight impairment. The event, titled Sensonic, is the grand finale of a three year project, the Sensory Engagement Programme (SEP) which worked with blind, partially sighted, deaf and hard of hearing people across the border areas.

In conjunction with the Foyle Folk Festival and the City Of Culture’s Music Promise programme, The Foyle Folk Workshops specialise in the tuition of various acoustic and folk music associated instruments, such as the Acoustic Guitar, Banjo and Mandolin, these classes are for 11 to 18 year olds and are completely free. The workshops have now been running every Saturday since the 27th April and will continue to do so up until Saturday 29th June 2013.

The PSNI has recently launched a new non-emergency telephone number. Any member of the public now wishing to speak to the police about a non-emergency matter should dial 101. This new number replaces the 0845 600 8000 number.
